Reba

I hope you all have had a great week. Aside from our hands-on ministry we also work with what we call artisan partners. Our partners could be small family businesses to large Fair-Trade companies. We visit them all to ensure there is a place for women being lifted out of poverty or abusive situations to give them hope and a better way of life. Today is one of those stories.

Reba shared her story like this…”My name is Reba, and I come from a poor family. My father was a farmer, and he often couldn’t provide enough food for me and my six siblings. Attending school was never an option for us. As we grew up, we had to share each other’s clothes because we couldn’t afford to buy new ones. When I got older, I started looking for work but no one would hire me because I didn’t have an education or work experience. One day I discovered a company that offered jobs to women like me – those that were struggling but had untapped potential. I worked hard to learn and started making bags and paper products. With my earnings I wanted to support my siblings. I finally had hope. Then my father wanted me to get married and have my own family which meant I would have to quit my job. After much pressure I caved in. My husband worked but did not make enough money to help my siblings, they were struggling. I eventually convinced my in-laws to allow me to return to work for the same company so I could help my family. Now I can care for my siblings and my daughter who is two years old. My simple wish is that I can continue to work to support my family and give my daughter a brighter future. I give thanks to Rahab’s Rope and other supporters that make it possible for me to continue working.”

Rahab’s Rope has been working with this company for the past seven years. Not only do they teach women from poverty and give them jobs, this company also works specifically with women rescued from sex trafficking providing them training and jobs. Thank you for supporting these women and their families by buying the products they make.

Blessings,

Vicki
