International Women's Day

International Women's Day

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day by honoring the life of one of our own.

Laxmi is pictured above with one of our board members, Megan. Laxmi worked for Rahab’s Rope for the past 16 years. In January of this year, she passed away from cancer.

The theme of this year’s Women’s Day is “Give to Gain,” and that describes Laxmi perfectly. Every day she gave her all to the children in one of the slums where we work. She helped them with their homework and taught them important life skills—with generosity, patience, and love. Because of her dedication, many of the children she mentored stayed in school and became successful examples for others to follow.

Just this week I spoke with the director of our women’s center. She shared that over the past year; Laxmi had been visiting the center regularly. She always had a smile, laughed with the women, and made sure to speak with each one of them. Laxmi truly lived a life of giving to others. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

Laxmi leaves behind two children, Angel and Enoch. Their father had already passed away, and now our children’s center director is in the process of adopting them. We want to ensure that Laxmi’s children are well cared for and supported in the years ahead.

Today, as we remember Laxmi, we celebrate a life that embodied the spirit of giving. Her love and dedication will continue to live on in the lives she touched.

In India, when children lose both parents, the path forward depends on extended family, financial capacity, and the legal system. Relatives who step in must formally apply for guardianship under laws such as the Guardians and Wards Act. Legal guardianship is essential for enrolling a child in school, opening a bank account, applying for insurance, and making medical decisions on their behalf. Without it, even basic necessities can become nearly impossible.

We are deeply grateful that Angel and Enoch’s uncle, Suresh, has chosen to raise them as his own. Suresh and his wife, Rebekah, have faithfully served with Rahab’s Rope for 17 years, overseeing our children’s afterschool program and leading our girls’ and boys’ life skills classes Through their love, dedication, and steadfast faith, they have shared the Gospel and helped transform countless lives within this community. He and his wife, Rebekah, have one son and currently live in a one-bedroom apartment. Welcoming two more children into their home is a beautiful act of love — and a significant financial responsibility.

The most urgent need is housing. A family of five cannot remain in a one-bedroom apartment. We are seeking one-time funding of $65,000 to secure a modest three-bedroom home and provide essential furnishings.

In addition, we are seeking ongoing educational support for Angel and Enoch. In India, school expenses include annual admission fees, monthly tuition, uniforms, transportation, books, and supplies. The estimated cost is approximately $1,500 per child per year. We have established an education fund to ensure their schooling continues uninterrupted in the years ahead.

This is a moment where family, community, and faith come together. Suresh and Rebekah are opening their hearts and their home. We are asking others to help provide the practical support that will make this possible. If you would like to contribute toward housing or sponsor the children’s education, please let us know. Your generosity will directly impact

the stability, safety, and future of these two precious children. Donate on-line or by mail. For more information email, info@rahabsrope.com
