Walk Humbly
“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8
Joy was an only child, her father worked, and her mother stayed home to look after her. Joy’s parents took good care of her, and she didn’t lack for anything. One day her father became ill and was diagnosed with tuberculosis. His health continued to decline, and he couldn’t work. The family began to struggle financially, and he passed away. Joy’s mother got a job and suddenly she was also diagnosed with tuberculosis and passed away. There was no other family around and a neighbour took Joy and sold her to a brothel. Joy was so young she doesn’t remember how old she was, and she could find no way to escape. She had been there for several months when a police raid happened, and she was rescued. She was placed in a home that we partnered with while the police searched to find her relatives. An extended family member was found, and Joy was sent to live with them. Unfortunately, her newfound family was not happy to have her and arranged for her marriage. At this point, Joy was about 13 years old. She immediately became pregnant, and the man was very abusive to her. She had a beautiful little boy. Joy suspected her husband was about to sell her and her son, so she ran away with her son. She contacted someone that had helped her previously that knew Rahab’s Rope well and they brought her to us. After some time with us, one morning she got up and said she woke up during the night and couldn’t sleep, she said God spoke to her and she prayed to him and believed in Him. It was so exciting to listen to her share her testimony. We were able to help her find a place to live and paid for her to go to a Christian vocational training Center that offered her more services than we were able to provide. We also paid for daycare for her son and then his school fees once he was old enough for school. Joy was able to find employment and wants her son to have the best possible education. She said she wants him to become a Pastor and witness to the whole world.
We have walked with Joy for over 10 years. Thank you for joining us and making this happen!
