The Story of One

The Story of One

Today I want to encourage you to embrace your part in His story.

In 2004, God broke my heart for women and children being trafficked in Southeast Asia. The statistics were staggering—overwhelming, even. I could hardly believe what I was reading. Then I watched a video of a young woman, about 20 years old, sharing her story. She had been trafficked as a child and was never allowed to go to school. She couldn’t read or write, had no skills and no way to get a job. She wasn’t asking for a handout, she was asking for a hand up.

In that moment, I felt something rise up in me: I can teach you something.

But how? I was a stay-at-home mom, not planning to move across the world. How could I possibly make a difference in an industry affecting more than 40 million people and generating billions each year? I didn’t know how—but I knew God was saying, Go.

So, I set up several meetings with people I knew there, including someone connected to the video. My final meeting was with a young man who had worked on the video. After hearing my story, he smiled and said something I’ll never forget: “I’ve been trying to do something from my side of the world, but it keeps falling apart. You’re the missing piece.”

I had been trying to figure out how to do everything, when all along God was simply asking me to do my part. God is not asking us to save the world. He is asking us to be obedient in the piece He has given us.

What is God asking you to do?

It may feel overwhelming. It may even feel impossible. But God is the One who makes the impossible possible.

There’s a quote I often return to: “To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.”

So go—find your one person. Then the next. And the next. Remember, this is His story, His plan, for His purposes. Seek Him and do your part.

Matthew 6:33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness…”

Blessings,
