Love in Action
"Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence:" 1 John 3:18-19
Shanti's Story
Because of you, we are able to experience
and share this joyful story.
Shanti is 10 years old, the youngest of 4 siblings. Her sisters were married at a very young age, and she only has her mother who works a very hard low paying job. There is not enough money to send Shanti to school, so she stays home by herself until her mother returns late in the evening. One day a man came and found Shanti alone and befriended her. He would come each day and buy her food to eat. One day he gave her some food laced with drugs. Shanti awoke on a bus with the man, she had been on the bus a long time. She began to cry when she realized what had happened. She screamed! The bus conductor came to check on her. She told the conductor she did not know this man or where he was taking her. Shanti was crying for her mother and begging for help. Somehow the bus driver and conductor were able to report the situation to the police before the man could do anything. The police met the bus and arrested the man and rescued Shanti. Our staff worked with the police and children's welfare department to discover Shanti was over 6 hours from her home place. The authorities were contacted and a search for Shanti’s mother began. Shanti’s mother was found, and our staff worked to reunite Shanti with her mother. It was a very joyful and happy meeting. However, this was not the end. The police arrested two men and promised to protect Shanti and her mother. They also promised to enroll Shanti in school and pay her fees!
Truly an amazing story.
