Dignity Restored
And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 1 Peter 5:10
Today’s story is one of suffering and restoration that only God can provide. The women we serve that have been trafficked believe where they are is their lot in life. They see no way out and no hope. We can’t begin to imagine how they think or what they feel. They were trafficked at such a young age they feel they have no other option. Then they come to our center, they feel peace, love and eventually hope. Through our literacy class and vocational training, they realize they can do something else. They know they have the support of our staff and many realize there is a God that loves and cares for them. They may not get a job from one of the skills we taught but they know they can do something. Such is the case with Suha. Suha was in her mid-twenties when she first came to our center. She learned to sew and make jewelry. Jewelry making was her favorite thing to do. She attended our English-speaking class and picked up the language quicker than most. Eventually, she was ready to move on and get a job somewhere. We helped her find a job at a grocery store where many English-speaking people shopped. Her first position was working in the back stock room. Because of her English-speaking skills and her work ethic she was promoted to working in the store stocking shelves and helping customers and before long she was given the job of cashier. It was so exciting to see Suha advance. Through the staff at our center, we equipped Suha to break the cycle of exploitation she had experienced. We gave her the support and love God calls us to give and trusted him to restore her dignity. Suha’s life and dignity were restored.
