A Mother's Heart; Before She was a Mother
With Mother’s Day coming next week, I thought I would share a story about a young mother. We will call her Rani, she has been in our program since she was a young teenager. I first met Rani about 12 years ago. We were teaching a girls life skills class. One of the teachers asked if you could be anything you have ever dreamed about becoming what would it be? One by one we went around the circle with each girl sharing her dream. When it came Rani’s turn, she put her head down and said, “I have no dreams, they have all been taken away.” I was shocked and my heart was broken to hear her words. What could we do to help this beautiful teenage girl have a dream and hope for the future. I had met so many teenage girls from this area that had tried to commit suicide, and I did not want Rani to be another one. Rani was faithful to continue coming to our life skill class and vocational training classes. The group was giving her support, and you could see changes happening for Rani. She was becoming a caring and confident young woman. Rani is one of our most talented jewelry makers, she had a beautiful gift inside that she did not know was there. She makes many other items as well. One day Rani chatted with her neighbor who was also a teenager. Rani suspected that she was pregnant and asked, the girl replied that she was not. Rani did not believe her and kept checking on her. One night she heard the girl screaming and ran to see what was happening. The girl was having the baby and did not want her family to know so she was disposing of the baby. Rani got her mom, and they saved the baby’s life and took her to the hospital. They called our director to come help with the situation. When our director arrived, she immediately thought of a place for the baby. She called a woman in our vocational training program that had tried to get pregnant for seven years with no luck and asked if she and her husband wanted a little girl. The response was an immediate yes! Rani had saved a baby's life. Rani definitely had a mother’s heart before she was one. Fast forward, Rani married a very nice young man and about a year later they had a beautiful little boy. A couple of years later Rani became pregnant again and was hoping for a girl. At delivery she had another beautiful boy. Beside her in the hospital was a young, unmarried, teenage girl delivering an unwanted little girl. Rani called our director to help again. They were able to arrange for Rani and her husband to adopt the little girl. Rani went to the hospital to birth one baby but came home with two. She tells everyone she has twins. Rani has the biggest mother’s heart. This once young teenage girl with no dreams now has a beautiful and loving family. Please pray for Rani’s husband as he is currently having some health problems. They are such a sweet family.
